Since the action started on the roastery building things are continuing to gather momentum. Since the last update the demolition phase has finished and the rebuilding is going full steam ahead. It felt a little sad seeing the building as a roofless, empty shell for a few weeks but it didn't last long. All the walls have been secured and the wall heads made ready for the new roof. The old concrete floor has been taken out, drains and insulation put in and a new, level floor been constructed. The foundations for the extension have also been poured, but not before a few surprises were found as we discovered a few 'middens'. This is the word for landfills where things were thrown when they could not longer be repurposed or re-used. We found an old teapot, a shoe and a sign for bogie roll which apparently is pipe tobacco! Have a peek at the video above for a wee walk-through of where things are up to.
The builders have finished their work for now and so it is over to the joiner. We are so excited to see him start. There is still so much to do but each stage is super exciting!
