They are finally here. After months of waiting and suspense, the wait is over. We are open till 10pm every night!
In typical Apothecary style, wanting to get everything right rather than be overrun, we opened our first evening last Monday without a fanfare. It's been great fun welcoming you into the Apothecary over this first week of evenings. It's been great to find our feet with our new opening times and get to grips with our new offerings.
What new offerings you ask! The evenings have everything you and I love about the Apothecary, great coffee, awesome cakes, great food, and friendly staff but with 5 beer lines, incredible wines and gins and the kitchen taking it up a notch with sharing platters, small plates and full meals!
Craft beer is something that seems to have exploded in recent years and we love the almost endless different flavours and styles there are to try. We are new to serving it but are already loving the journey with some of the staff passing beer knowledge exams and becoming certified beer servers.
We have 5 beer lines that we want to use to explore the exciting world of craft beer. In the same way as we approach coffee, we love flavour and trying new things. Our initial tap list has 5 Brewdog beers that are as equally amazing as they are varied. We have the beer that started it all for Brewdog, Punk IPA, a tropical fruit and caramel, spikey IPA. Clockwork tangerine, a fruit IPA that replaces the hoppy bitterness with sweet tangerine. Quench quake, a tangerine and grapefruit sour. If you have never tried a sour beer then don't let the name put you off. The fruity tartness leaves you totally refreshed and wanting more. We step it up a notch with a raspberry milkshake double IPA that is ridiculously smooth and fruity and finally turn to the dark side with jet black heart milk stout. We serve this beer using a different gas mixture that is richer in nitrogen giving this luxuriously dark beer an even smoother mouthfeel. What do you want first? Can't decide? Then pick as many of them as you want and explore them with a tasting flight.
Wine is something else where the flavours fascinate us. We recently discovered natural wines. The best way we have found to describe them is 'non-intervention'. This means the wine maker makes a wine in the most natural way possible with no sulphates or preservatives added in at the end. Our natural red has blown my mind!
I've waffled on long enough and still not mentioned our couple of gins and our mighty espresso martini. Have you ever had a truly great espresso martini? It is one of those things that needs a great espresso so it is not usually that easy to find but I think we have that one down and paired with Brewdog distilling co. vodka seals the deal.
To compliment the cakes and drinks the kitchen has something for you no matter what you fancy that evening. We have a full menu of meals alongside small plates and sharing plates of Scottish cheese and charcuterie. Have a look at the menu here
Like the sound of this and want to guarantee your spot? We are taking a small number of bookings for each evening. Give us a call if you would like to book on 01358 721946.
