It certainly feels like everything has changed over the last few months and one of the many things that we have had to change is how to take tips! In the current situation we have been running as cashless cafes since we have reopened and are carrying that on for the time being. In the midst of working everything out we have realised that this has meant that the staff aren't getting nearly the same amount of tips as folk aren't carrying cash to drop in the tipjar. We have also been asked a lot if it is possible to leave a tip through a card.
Previously we have always shied away from taking tips through the card machine as this can get very messy to administer. There is also a lot of mistrust in this method as I'm sure we all know of stories where card machine tips never got back to the staff who put in the hard work to earn them.
After looking around we have found a company called Tipjar that also saw this issue and have the perfect solution! They collect tips through cards through a website and then distribute them directly to the staff who have worked hard for them without going through the business. This keeps it all completely transparent and fair for both your self and the staff and means that the staff get all they have worked hard for and deserve.
If this sounds good to you too and you would like to leave a tip for the staff after your next visit you you will see a QR code next to the card machines in our cafes. You can point the camera on your phone at it and follow the link which will take you to our Tipjar landing page. There you can decide how much you would like to tip, enter your details and relax knowing it is going to the people who deserve it!
